Bluegrass Masses

On January 16, 2011 St. Paul’s Cathedral celebrated another “Bluegrass Gospel Mass” featuring traditional American gospel music. “Deacon Mike and The Chain-Smoking Altar Boys” provided the musical impetus to bring a bit of true Americana to the congregation.

The members of “—The Chain-Smoking Altar Boys” include:

Deacon Mike Hackbarth – Banjo, Guitar, Lead Vocals
Gary Coquoz – Guitar, Dobro
Jake Smet – Mandolin, vocals
Jonathon Koehler – Viola
Adam Kahlhamer – Bass
Nancy Elliman - vocals

The musical selections included traditional compositions from early 20th century artists to contemporary compositions from the late 20th century.

Gospel:   Let the Light Shine Down vs 1-2 before Gospel; vs 3 after

Three more Bluegrass Masses are scheduled for the year 2011 specifically: April, July, and October.
