Evangelism & Pastoral Care

Because we promise to “Proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ,” we offer Evangelization.
Because we promise to “Strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being,” we offer Pastoral Care.

"Will you proclaim by word and example the good News of God in Christ?
And will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?"
(Baptismal Covenant, BCP-305)

Evangelism & Pastoral Care Committee

This committee has focused its energy on three impact areas:  welcoming newcomers, illuminating the men and women serving in our armed forces, and developing a Facebook page for our cathedral.

The "Newcomers Welcome Bag" includes a copy of the service schedule, business cards from Fr Brian and Deacon Mike, a visitor's information card, a packet of candy (for young children), and bookmark (made by Circle of Friends Children's Group).  The visitor's information card was updated by asking the visitors to fill out some basic information (name, address, telephone) and asking them if they desire more information about the Episcopal Church.  This card is perforated to allow the information to be placed in the collection plate; the remaining half has the names and telephone numbers of the Evangelism/Pastoral Care Contact Team members and the Mass Schedule.  The ushers will keep an "eye out" for new people and offering the bag to each family and instructing them as to the contents.

For many months our congregations has prayed earnestly for God's care and protection for our family members that are serving overseas.  Unfortunately many of us have no idea as to the relationship of the soldier to our church.

A call was put out to church members to help us identify these soldiers by bringing in the soldiers' pictures and their duty stations.  A large decorated bulletin board labeled "In Honor of Those Who Serve" is in the back of the church displaying some of the soldiers on our parish prayer list.

Facebook is a popular tool for many people to help communicate throughout our ever-broadening community.  The Cathedral now has a Facebook page; to access it, simply click on the Facebook logo to the left.
